CAMPAIGN SOS AMAZONIA/AGAINST THE GLOBAL HEATING AND DEFORESTATION!
The advance of the capitalist “agrobusiness”, the fire in the forest, the deforestation advances with a destruction track. In a questiono f few years Brazil already knocked down 16.3% of the Amazonian forest. The researchers and scientists in alert them that to persist the current rhythm of deforestation of the forest for the cattle one, the farms of soy and the lumber exploration, 40% of it will have to disappear until the half of this century. Amazonia, in this point, will walk irreversible to changed itself into open pasture. The deforestation of the Amazônia will provoke climatic alterations in some regions of the planet, to start for Brazil. The desertification in the North can drastically affect the hidrologic system of the continent, creating great dry areas in the regions Center-West, Southeast and South of the Country (Brazil).
The peoples who inhabit this region face diverse challenges, between them, one of most important: the sovereignty and the self-determination of the proper amazon people in the fight for the conservation of the forest, the rivers, the lakes and the diverse existing natural resources in the region.
The politics that supports or allows this deforestation is imprisoned to the criterion of the exportation that generates the surplus and is supported by the false concept of development and progress that has as control point the gotten immediate resources whatever the cost. The deforestations of the Amazonian bush, mainly in the Mato Grosso state, have been a great problem. They are squatters, cattle of extension and an one economic policy directed toward the exportation that of fact contributes for the destruction, using as false justification of "development".
The aboriginal territories, the extrativists reserves and the communitarian lands of quilombolas (traditional brazilian people unhabitants who lives next to the rivers or old descendants from slaves of 19th century) and the marginal communities resist this neoliberal model and nail the principle of the productive convivence with the natural sources of leves, flowers, fruits and animals of the forest, as well as of the rivers and of the lakes. The indians if feel on to the beings of the Amazônia, of the nature with a kinship bow, with a solidarity and respect feeling. More of the one than never: to wound the land is to wound the children of the land.
We of the Nuovi Orizzonti have the intention to mount an International campaign in Defense of the Human Rights of the Amazônia and its people, for this reason we came to ask for your unconditional support we are Diocese, Archdiocese, Parish, Confederation of Priests and Bishops, at last, so that let us can together create a net work, a net of joint action. The coalisation (net) is necessary, propitious and pertinent, a time that we have as subject of the Campaign of Fraternity - CNBB (National Confederation of the Bishops of Brazil) agency of the Church Catholic called by – Amazonia and Fraternity in this year of 2007.
